鼎足而立dǐng zú ér lìstand like the legs of a tripod—a tripartite balance of forces
? 誠能聽臣之計(jì)，莫若兩利而俱存之，叁分天下，鼎足而居，其勢莫敢先動(dòng)。(《史記·淮陰侯列傳》2623) If you follow my plan,however,you can take advantage of both sides and divide the land into three with them like the three legs of a tripod so that neither of the others dare make the first move.
